LIFE+ Financial instrument

NATNET Life+ project enhances the biodiversity of forests in south-western Lapland by LIFE financing.

LIFE program is the financial instrument of European Union supporting environmental and nature conservation projects in EU area. The main goal of LIFE is to enhance the implementation, updating and development of EU environmental policy and legislation by co-financing pilot or demonstration projects. LIFE began in 1992 and to date there have been three complete phases of the program. The current phase of the program, LIFE+, runs from 2007-2013.

Essential part of current LIFE+ is Nature and Biodiversity component, which uses at least 50 percent of the total LIFE+ budget. It finances inter alia best practice or demonstration projects that contribute to the implementation of the Birds and Habitats Directives and the Natura 2000 network. NATNET Life+ project is funded by financing of the LIFE+ Nature and Biodiversity.
